We may all be staying at home and following
the government advice to
But it definitely doesn't stop our Scout Group
from keeping on #scoutingfromhome
Tonight we did something new (for us anyway).
We invested William as a member of our
Troop during our online meeting.
Unfortunately he won't receive his physical scarf.
Or his badges.
Until we are able to meet in person again.
But the important thing is that he has made the New Zealand Scout Promise
On my honour, I promise to do my best,
To develop my spiritual beliefs,
To contribute to my community, country and world,
To help other people,
And to live by the Scout Law.
and is now a member of the world wide family of Scouting!
And as promised here's the story we wrote by each contributing a word in turn (one Scout commented that it could have been an early draft by a monkey with a typewriter gearing up to type Shakespeare).
ReplyDelete"One evening there was a(n) old toad who fighted dragons. Usually the dragons were poisonous and ate granny. But the trees told the toad. Amazing and big cow who knew how to fly acrobatically and told heroic tales to him cheese(ily).
Him be very butterflies, strangely cheese came speedily spewing out of bricks came in truckloads green aliens with bow ties (pretend it’s one word) dropped with a banana gun shooting whales into
dark- matter cheese
The end
Full STOP
the end
what is it wth da cheese"
i realize the 'oath' has changed many times over the years - feel the second line should be deleted in our world today of many cultures/religious beliefs etc
ReplyDeleteMy years of being Akela with your previous young folk & luvly neighbours = "on my honour I promise to do my best, to do my duty to my country, to help others at all times - as is the Scout Law"
it was/is an unspoken law 'do unto others as you would like them to do to you'. The Scout Law as you Leaders must follow is of course - trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, brave, clean, thrifty, reverent - yes the last x2 need to be amended for nowadays living - maybe 'loyal, respectful' be given to new members.
keep on going my friends ... Lucie
